The winter season is approaching, and it’s essential that boats are properly moored.

We provide a series of recommendations so you can have peace of mind knowing it will be securely moored during the harshest months of the year.

Ensuring proper mooring is essential not only for the safety of your boat, but also for the rest of the port. If your berth has a finger, we recommend that you moor it on the bow.聽

To avoid unnecessary pulling, check the condition of the springs and the mooring compensation systems. Also, check the shackles, as they are responsible for supporting heavy loads and ensuring a firm anchorage.

The knots must be strong to keep the boat in place, and the fenders are essential to prevent knocks and scratches, acting as the boat’s bumper. Reinforce聽them and choose the right ones according to the size of your boat. Placing the name of your boat on the fenders is useful for easy identification if they become loose.

Pick up any loose lines and leave them securely attached to the mooring, to avoid tripping hazards that could cause accidents to others. In addition, covering the boat with protective tarps is essential to shield it from the weather and safeguard the electronic systems.

If you have a sailboat, remember to fold and protect the sails well. The lines should be adapted to the dimensions of each boat, and never pass the lines over the bulwark or balconies: use the fairleads correctly.

In the case of stern-moored boats or sailboats, it is advisable to add two crossed lines. Always keep drains clean and clear to avoid blockages.聽

Avoid making loops in the sheaves, as they complicate the tensioning of the kicker and can cause difficulties when unmooring.

The distance between the boat and the dock must be adequate: wide enough to ensure a secure mooring, but not excessive. This way, it avoids interfering with the entry and exit maneuvers of other vessels.

Last but not least, ask for help whenever you need it.
